Team Europe has an insurmountable 14-1 lead
Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev clinched a comprehensive Laver Cup win for Team Europe on Sunday afternoon when they defeated Team World’s Reilly Opelka and Denis Shapovalov 6-2, 6-7(4), 10-3 to give their team an insurmountable 14-1 lead.
“I was thinking I’m one of the worst ones in doubles, that I can only shoot forehands and that’s it. But it looks like I can play doubles really well,” Rublev said in the on-court interview. “It’s been amazing. It’s been a pleasure to be with these guys, with Bjorn and Thomas behind our back. It was a pleasure.”
Team Europe has now won the first four editions of the three-day event. The only match they have dropped this weekend came in Friday evening’s doubles match.
Team World faced a daunting task when they arrived at TD Garden in Boston for the third day of action, knowing they had to win all four matches to claim the trophy. Opelka and Shapovalov battled hard to win the second set and put pressure on their opponents, but they were unable to finish the job.
Shapovalov made two unforced errors early in the Match Tie-break and Rublev and Zverev took full advantage. Team Europe have won five of the six Match Tie-breaks in this year’s Laver Cup.
“A lot of matches could have gone both ways and we won most of those matches,” Zverev said in the on-court interview. “At the end of the day, the score says that it was 14-1, but it could have gone both ways a lot of the time.
"I think we’re all extremely happy. We [did] a lot of hard work for this victory throughout the whole week. The guys have been amazing. The group of this team has been absolutely amazing. I think a lot of us came a lot closer together and to be honest I can’t wait for London next year.”

ATP Receives Independent Safeguarding Report; Zverev Investigation Announced
Spoiler:
ATP will now evaluate the recommendations to identify immediate next steps
An Independent Safeguarding Report, commissioned by the ATP earlier in the season, has been completed. It represents a key element of the ATP’s overall safeguarding review to ensure all adults and minors involved in professional tennis are safe and protected from abuse.
Compiled by a team of experts led by Chris Smart, former Detective Chief Inspector in the Metropolitan Police (UK), the report outlines a number of wide-ranging recommendations to ensure safeguarding is embedded across all aspects of ATP organisational activity. Topics covered include prevention, reporting and investigation of abuse, disciplinary measures, policy statements, event safety, training, information sharing, collaboration with other bodies of tennis and the appointment of dedicated safeguarding leads.
ATP will now evaluate the recommendations to identify immediate next steps and develop a longer-term safeguarding strategy relating to all matters of abuse, including domestic violence.
Massimo Calvelli, ATP CEO, said: “As an organisation we recognise the need to be doing more to ensure everyone involved in professional tennis feels safe and protected. The recommendations of the Safeguarding Report will help us approach this in a robust way. We are committed to making meaningful steps forward and know this won’t be an overnight process.”
In parallel, an internal investigation into allegations concerning Alexander Zverev at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai in 2019 is currently underway. The ATP fully condemns any form of violence or abuse and will investigate such allegations related to conduct at an ATP member tournament.
Calvelli said: “The allegations raised against Alexander Zverev are serious and we have a responsibility to address them. We hope our investigation will allow us to establish the facts and determine appropriate follow-up action. We understand Zverev welcomes our investigation and acknowledge that he has denied all allegations. We will also be monitoring any further legal developments following the preliminary injunction obtained by Zverev in the German Courts.”

Zverev Eyes His Season’s Best Masters 1000 Haul In Indian Wells
Spoiler:
German has never passed round of 16 in the desert
A shot at a third ATP Masters 1000 trophy in 2021 is on the line for Alexander Zverev as he prepares to open his BNP Paribas Open campaign. After triumphs in Madrid and Cincinnati, it would break new ground for the third seed should he claim three in the same season for the first time.
The German has good reason to expect he will. Since a fourth-round exit at Wimbledon he has been on a tear on hard courts, claiming the Tokyo Olympics gold medal, his fourth title of the season at the Western & Southern Open before a semi-final defeat to Novak Djokovic at the US Open.

“I think the second part of the season for me has been incredible so far. I've only lost one match so far [and] I've won 17, so it is going good,” Zverev said. “I think everybody is happy to be back here. This is a tournament that everybody enjoys even though I didn't have a lot of success here yet. I'm hoping to change that this year. I'm hoping to be able to find my rhythm, find my form here, we'll see how the tournament goes.”
In four main draw appearances, Zverev has won just five matches in the desert. His sole run to the round of 16 came in 2016, when as an 18-year-old he took down seeded players Grigor Dimitrov and Gilles Simon for a showdown with three-time champion Rafael Nadal.

Zverev twice broke the Spaniard in the final set and held a match point, but came up agonisingly short. It was a performance from which Nadal deemed him “a future No. 1”.
“I played the fourth round here against Rafa, had the match point in 2016. I was 18 years old back there and since then I haven’t reached the fourth round again,” Zverev said. “This year I can obviously go past and beyond what I've reached here so far, but it's an interesting week because we're obviously not used to playing in this heat here in Indian Wells.
“Normally it's a lot cooler, conditions are very different. I think everybody needs to adjust and to be honest I think it's going to be a very interesting tournament.” Zverev faces a potentially tricky opener against either #NextGenATP American Jenson Brooksby or a qualifier and could meet #NextGenATP Spaniard Calos Alcaraz in the third round.

Zverev & Struff Take Out Sixth Seeds In Indian Wells
Spoiler:
Fognini/Sonego Advance In Match Tie-break
Alexander Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff upset sixth seeds Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares in straight sets Saturday, advancing to the second round with a 6-4, 6-4 win at the BNP Paribas Open.
The unseeded pairing, which reached the quarter-finals at the Tokyo Olympics, broke serve four times and fired six aces. The Germans will next take on Canadian Denis Shapovalov and Indian Rohan Bopanna for a place in the quarter-finals.
There was another upset Saturday as Fabio Fognini and Lorenzo Sonego, in their second match as a team, defeated the third-seeded pairing of Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 3-6, 6-3, 10-8. In their only previous match together, the Italians lost in straight sets in the first round at this year’s National Bank Open Presented by Rogers.
Granollers and Zeballos have been in top form as a tandem in 2021, winning three ATP Tour titles, including two ATP Masters 1000 victories in Madrid and Cincinnati. They had won 13 of their past 15 matches prior to this meeting.
In other action, 2021 Hamburg champions Tim Puetz and Michael Venus outlasted the all-Spanish team of Pablo Carreno Busta and Carlos Alcaraz with a 7-5, 6-7(5), 15-13 victory. Puetz/Venus won on their ninth match point, while Carreno Busta and Alcaraz failed to convert any of their six match-point opportunities.
Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo also advanced with a 6-7(6), 7-5, 10-2 come-from-behind victory over Cristian Garin and Santiago Gonzalez. The eighth seeds came back from a 2-5 deficit in the second set, winning the next five games and the match tie-break to set up a meeting with Belgians Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen.

Tokio 2020.
Mamy nadzieję, że nasze śledztwo pozwoli ustalić fakty i podjąć odpowiednie działania" - poinformował w komunikacie do mediów Massimo Calvelli, dyrektor ATP.

Zverev Fights Off Inspired Brooksby At Indian Wells
Spoiler:
German to face Murray in third round
Alexander Zverev has survived a stern challenge from #NextGenATP American Jenson Brooksby to open his campaign for a third ATP Masters 1000 trophy of the season at Indian Wells on Sunday.
The German third seed overcame the 20-year-old home hope 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in one hour and 48 minutes to set a third-round showdown with former World No. 1 Andy Murray, an earlier winner over #NextGenATP Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.
Zverev, who was victorious in Madrid and Cincinnati this season, won 73 per cent of first-serve points, including 12 aces, in the pair’s first ATP Head2Head meeting. He ended the match with 28 winners to Brooksby’s 17, but his 35 unforced errors were 14 more than his opponent committed.

“Especially in the second set I didn’t see the ball well on [one] side of the court because of the sun,” Zverev said. “It wasn’t an easy match, but I’m happy to be through, I’m happy to be in the third round and playing Andy now.
“I think he’s the only one of the Big Four I haven’t beaten yet, so I hope I can change that. I think it’s incredible how well he’s moving and incredible how well he’s playing. I think he’s very motivated so I hope I can show my best tennis.”
Fifth in the ATP Race to Milan, Brooksby had beaten Turkish qualifier Cem Ilkel in the opening round in his first match since he made the fourth round at the US Open last month, where he took a set from top seed Novak Djokovic. He had shone on home soil in recent months, with a maiden ATP Tour final in Newport, before a semi-final run in Washington, and looked as though he could continue that solid run when he recovered from a break down to take the second set against Zverev.
The German halted any momentum his younger opponent had built however, when he broke for 2-0 in the deciding set. It proved the final turning point as he put the foot down to complete victory on a trio of aces.
