Halowy turniej Wrocław Open nie zostanie rozegrany w 2018 roku w stolicy Dolnego Śląska. Taką decyzję podjęli organizatorzy tych zawodów rangi ATP Challenger Tour

Tegoroczny turniej miał się rozpocząć w poniedziałek, 26 lutego. Tymczasem w ostatnich dniach zawody zniknęły z kalendarza ATP Challenger Tour i stało się jasne, że tym razem się nie odbędą. O wszystkim zadecydowała trudna sytuacja finansowa, z którą organizatorzy mieli do czynienia już w zeszłym sezonie.
- Moglibyśmy spróbować i w tym roku, ale byłoby to balansowanie na finansowej granicy - powiedział Paweł Jaroch dziennikarzom Radia Wrocław. Dyrektor turnieju zapowiedział, że przerwa potrwa tylko rok i zostanie uczynione wszystko, aby w 2019 tenisiści powrócili do stolicy Dolnego Śląska.

Pierwsza edycja wrocławskiego challengera, wówczas KGHM Dialog Polish Indoors, odbyła się w 2000 roku. Turniej nie był rozgrywany w latach 2010-2014. Powrócił do kalendarza w sezonie 2015 jako Wrocław Open. Zeszłoroczną edycji wygrał Austriak Jürgen Melzer, który pokonał w finale Michała Przysiężnego.

Two new $100,000 ATP Challenger Tour events at Glasgow and Loughborough are set to join the UK calendar for 2018, the Lawn Tennis Association has announced.

The tournaments will provide high-level competition on British soil ahead of the highly-anticipated grass court season, including The Queen’s Club Championships, Eastbourne International, and Wimbledon.

The first of these ATP Challenger events will be held in Glasgow from April 28-May 6 at the Scotstoun Tennis Centre, while the second will take place at the Dan Maskell Centre at Loughborough University from May 19-27.

Both tournaments will be staged on indoor hard courts, featuring a 32 singles main draw and 32 qualifying draws with 16 doubles teams. These events will provide valuable ATP ranking points and quality playing opportunities for British players.

Leon Smith, LTA Head of Men’s Tennis and Davis Cup Captain, said: “It’s great news that we’re creating more playing opportunities for British players in the UK.

“These Challenger events are invaluable in providing high-quality match experience as well as the opportunity to build up important ATP ranking points. Hopefully we can see some high-level performances from our Brits at these events.”

Oliver Scadgell, LTA Director of Major Events and Competitions said: “We are delighted to add to new playing opportunities at home for GB players, bringing high-level men’s tennis to Glasgow and Loughborough.

“These two new events enhance our domestic calendar of International Tournaments in 2018, which consists of 12 ITF Pro-Circuit tournaments (six men’s and six women’s) ranging in prize money from $15,000 to $25,000, in addition to the grass court Trophy Series which sees three events for men at Surbiton, Nottingham and Ilkley and four for women at Surbiton, Manchester, Ilkley and Southsea.”

Organizatorzy turnieju Poznań Open zdecydowali, że tegoroczna edycja zostanie rozegrana na początku czerwca. Poprzednie imprezy w stolicy Wielkopolski odbywały się w drugiej połowie lipca.

Poznań Open 2018 zostanie więc rozegrany w dniach 3-10 czerwca, czyli w drugim tygodniu trwania wielkoszlemowego Rolanda Garrosa 2018. Organizatorzy liczą, że tenisiści, którzy szybko zakończą przygodę w Paryżu, będą mogli poprawić swój dorobek punktowy właśnie na kortach poznańskiej Olimpii.

Trzeba jednak pamiętać, że w drugim tygodniu Rolanda Garrosa 2018 będzie również rozgrywany turniej na mączce w czeskim Prościejowie, gdzie pula nagród wynosi aż 127 tys. euro. Do tego w tym czasie będzie się odbywała duża impreza tej rangi w brytyjskim Surbiton, gdzie zostanie zainaugurowany sezon na kortach trawiastych. Pula nagród tegorocznego Poznań Open wynosi 64 tys. euro.

Pierwsza edycja turnieju ATP Challenger Tour Sopot Open nie zostanie rozegrana na kortach ziemnych w Sopocie. Tenisiści będą w dniach 28 lipca - 5 sierpnia 2018 roku walczyć o rankingowe punkty i nagrody pieniężne w Gdyni.

Organizatorzy poinformowali w środę, że ze względu na skomplikowaną sytuację związaną z obiektami STK Sopot, Międzynarodowy Turniej Tenisowy Sopot Open odbędzie się na kortach Klubu Tenisowego Arka w Gdyni, przy ulicy Juliana Ejsmonda 3.
- Mając na uwadze profesjonalizm turnieju i pragnąc zapewnić uczestnikom, kibicom, partnerom i przedstawicielom mediów jak najbardziej komfortowe warunki, zostaliśmy zmuszeni do przeniesienia rozgrywek z Sopotu do Gdyni. Jest to, w naszej ocenie, jedyne rozwiązanie w sytuacji, wobec której pozostajemy bez jakiegokolwiek wpływu.


- Zaistniała sytuacja nie ma wpływu na relacje partnerskie z władzami Sopotu, które deklarują dalsze wsparcie i ścisłą współpracę dla dobra turnieju - napisano w komunikacie na oficjalnej stronie turnieju Sopot Open.

Tenisiści będą zatem w Gdyni walczyć w dniach 28 lipca - 5 sierpnia 2018 roku o rankingowe punkty i nagrody pieniężne. Przypomnijmy, że podczas majowej konferencji prasowej dyrektor zawodów Mariusz Fyrstenberg poinformował, że w Trójmieście mają zaprezentować się m.in. Hubert Hurkacz, Kamil Majchrzak, Jerzy Janowicz i Hiszpan Tommy Robredo, który dwukrotnie wygrał turniej głównego cyklu rozgrywany w Sopocie (2001, 2007).

Turniej ATP Challenger Tour po ponad 20 latach wraca na Majorkę. W sierpniu Akademia Tenisowa Rafaela Nadala zorganizuje turniej Rafa Nadal Open Banc Sabadell. Impreza na twardych kortach w Manacor będzie miała pulę nagród 43 tys. euro i pokryje się z pierwszym tygodniem rywalizacji w wielkoszlemowym US Open.

W Akademii Nadala, która powstała w 2016 roku, znajduje się aż 26 kortów, w tym twarde i ziemne, zarówno odkryte, jak i w hali.

Inauguracyjna edycja imprezy potrwa od 26 sierpnia do 2 września. Od ćwierćfinałów obecne będą sesje wieczorne, rozpoczynające się od godziny 20:00. Wstęp na trybuny będzie bezpłatny.

Aim to enhance the player pathway and improve viability of tennis at lower levels

The ATP Challenger Tour will undergo wholesale changes from 2019 that will further professionalise the sport, unlock significant investment and growth in prize money at the lower levels of men’s professional tennis, and lead to a greatly enhanced player pathway, the ATP announced on Monday.

The changes announced for 2019 are the result of an extensive strategic review the ATP has undertaken as it strives to enhance the player pathway and improve the viability of professional tennis at the lower levels of the sport. The changes will take place across the following key areas of the ATP Challenger Tour:

Draw Size
The Singles Main Draw size at ATP Challenger Tour events will increase from 32 to 48, leading to an annual increase of approximately 2,400 available professional job opportunities with prize money and hotel accommodation included. Tournaments will also feature a 4‐player qualifying event, with two qualifiers advancing into the Main Draw. In Doubles, a 16-team draw will continue to feature.

Tournament Schedule
Tournaments will take place across 7 days from Monday to Sunday including qualifying, leading to optimized player flow with facilitated player scheduling due to no overlap from week to week between respective tournaments.

Hospitality
Starting in 2019, all ATP Challenger tournaments will provide hotel accommodation for all Main Draw players. In total, this will constitute an approximate 20,000 additional room nights provided for players throughout the season.

Prize Money
All Main Draw players will earn prize money. The increased Singles Main Draw size (from 32 to 48) will lead to 16 more players per tournament earning prize money from 2019. Based on the same number of events taking place as today, it is estimated that an additional US$ 1 million will be generated through prize money. The highest-level Challengers will offer US$ 162,480 in 2019.

Branding
ATP Challenger Tour tournament categories will be re-branded in accordance with the number of ATP Rankings points on offer to the respective tournament champion, as is currently the case on the ATP World Tour (ATP World Tour 250, 500, and Masters 1000). There will be five ATP Challenger Tour categories – ATP Challenger 70, 80, 95, 110 and 125 – providing the Tour with a clear structure and easily defined brand to facilitate communication and marketing opportunities.

On-Site Facilities, Conditions & Streaming
Increased services will be offered across ATP Officiating as well as ATP Medical Services, with better access on offer to qualified Physiotherapists. Several enhancements will also be made to on-site conditions with more practice courts available, as well as improved player treatment facilities. In addition, from 2019 all Main Draw Singles matches are intended to be streamed online, meaning the number of matches available to viewers worldwide will more than double.

A big priority for us is to ensure we have a healthy player pathway and that we improve the viability of a career in men’s professional tennis. These changes represent an important step in the right direction for our sport.”

The changes announced for 2019 reflect the latest in a series of initiatives by ATP in recent years to bolster the ATP Challenger Tour which has seen overall prize money levels increase by approximately 28% since 2014. The Challenger Tour in 2018 will feature more than 160 tournaments worldwide.

From 2020, ATP Ranking points will begin at the ATP Challenger Tour only, a change that will significantly reduce the number of ATP-ranked players. The move is aimed at improving the player pathway up and down the tennis ecosystem, while positioning the ATP Challenger Tour as the first stage of professional tennis. The change will also serve to more accurately define the breadth of men’s professional tennis, leading to better services and conditions provided for true professional players, while providing a clear delineation between the professional ranks and the transitional ranks beneath.

It is long known for its revolutionary architecture, fascinating museums, thriving sports scene and of course deep dish pizza. And now, the bustling city of Chicago is an ATP Challenger Tour destination.

The third-largest city in the United States will host a Challenger tournament for the first time, as a new $150,000 event descends on the metropolis in September. The event will be held at the XS Tennis Village during the second week of the US Open, from 2-9 September. It will be the second Challenger in the greater Chicago area, with nearby Winnetka celebrating its 27th anniversary last week.

Their commitment to the sport goes hand-in-hand with our mission at XS to provide a positive pathway to future success through tennis.”

Murray's foundation was established in 2005 to offer tennis opportunities to at-risk youth in Chicago. His recently-opened $15 million 13-acre facility features 13 outdoor hard courts, 12 indoor hard courts, four clay courts, a track and turf field and a $10,000 square-foot gym.

Continuing its commitment to grow the game at the Challenger level and provide more opportunities for players in world-class settings, Oracle announced the addition of the tournament as part of the Oracle Challenger Series.

Earlier this year, the series launched with a pair of successful events in Southern California. #NextGenATP star Taylor Fritz kicked off his charge in the ATP Race To Milan with a title run in Newport Beach, the fourth victory in his young career, while former World No. 24 Martin Klizan returned to the winners' circle in Indian Wells.

The 2018-19 Oracle Challenger Series will begin in Chicago, with additional events to be added at a later date. It will culminate at the 2019 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, the first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event of the year, where the two Americans who accumulate the most points over the course of the series will receive wild cards into the singles main draw.


The Oracle Challenger Series builds on Oracle’s commitment to help support U.S. tennis at both the professional and collegiate level. Oracle sponsors the Oracle US Tennis Awards, two $100,000 grants awarded annually to assist young players as they transition from college into the professional ranks. In addition to sponsoring the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, Oracle also hosts the Oracle ITA Masters tournament in Malibu, California and the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships which will be held at the Surprise Tennis Center in Surprise, Arizona in 2018.
