Póki co Cipas w przypadku wygranej może zluzować Carlito i wskoczyć na numer cztery.
W każdym razie w żywym Grek już wyprzedził Alcaraza i awansował na 2 miejsce. Aktywnie włącza się do walki o jedynkę.

Cipas bierze NY i jedynkę, tak będzie. Nadal jest już skończony - od pół roku zagrał jeden dobry turniej bo grał na dragach.
Sprawdziłem jak wygląda kwestia potencjalnego przejęcia jedynki przez Nadala i oto rezultaty (przy pominięciu innych zawodników, co może okazać się istotne w pewnym momencie).
Założyłem, że Rafa zagra Montreal i w Nowym Jorku, jako że wydaje się to racjonalnym założeniem w tym momencie.
* Medvedev jest praktycznie pewny jedynki do 15 sierpnia (rozpoczęcia Cincy), bo nawet przy nie wygraniu żadnego meczu w Los Cabos i Kanadzie i wygranej Nadala tamże, pozostanie mu 5 punktów przewagi.
* Po Cincy również najbardziej prawdopodobne jest to, że Medvedev będzie wciąż przed Hiszpanem, chyba że Rafa wygra Montreal, a Rosjanin zagra totalną kupę, tzn. nie zrobi żadnego półfinału w Los Cabos, Montrealu i Cincy.
* Sytuacja oczywiście diametralnie zmienia się po amerykańskim szlemie:
- w optymistycznym wariancie dla Hiszpana i trzecim wygranym szlemie w tym roku może mieć nawet około 3 tysięcy punktów przewagi z około 8000 punktów.
- w realistycznym wariancie (Med robi połówki w Cincy i Nowym Jorku, a Nadal półfinał Kanady i finał USO) wyszło mi około 1000 punktów przewagi Rafy; 7000 do 6000.
- istnieje jednak wiele optymistycznych scenariuszy dla Medvedeva, przy których może on zachować jedynkę, np. obroni tytuł w Kanadzie, wygra w Los Cabos, zrobi finał w Nowym Jorku i QF Cincy, a Nadal odpadnie w półfinałach Kanady i USO. Żaden z nich nie przekroczy 7000 punktów w takim przypadku
Tak czy siak, w najbliżsych dwóch miesiącach Daniłek broni 3690 punktów ze swoich obecnych 7955, czyli prawie połowy. Za to przy Hiszpanie widzę 905 punktów do obrony do ósmego sierpnia i jednocześnie do końca roku.
Również bezwzględne liczby jasno wskazują, że nie muszą być jedynymi kandydatami do jedynki w najbliżsym czasie, chociaż akurat najwięksi potencjalni konkurnenci - Djokovic i Zverev - z różnych względów nie mają na to szans. Myślę, że zatem zostanie jeszcze dwójka innych graczy w bitwie o jedynkę - Alcaraz broniący niecałych 500 punktów do USO oraz Tsitsipas z niecałym 1000 punktów do obrony w analgicznym okresie.
Aktualizacja po tygodniu z Los Cabos.
Jak już było wspomniane w innych wątkach, Danił ma pewny numer jeden do końca Us Open. Przy czym odpuszczenie Kanady przez Nadala i być może również Cincinnati, czyni jego szanse na dalsze liderowanie znacznie wyższymi.
Dość powiedzieć, że gdyby obaj nie zdobyli żadnych punktów w najbliższych trzech turniejach (Kanada, Cincy, USO), to Nadal po Nowym Jorku miałby tylko 1105 punktów więcej od Rosjanina (5620 vs 4515). Zatem Medvedev musi o co najmniej tyle więcej ugrać w tych imprezach, co przy wygraniu na Flushing Meadows wydaje się nawet realne.
Oczywiście całkowita liczba punktów jest na tyle niska, że trzeba zacząć oglądać się na plecy, więc możliwe, że po Montrealu dodam też Alcaraza i Cipasa do analizy.
Zatem sytuacja po odjęciu punktów za zeszłoroczne US Open prezentuje się następująco:
- Nadal - 5630
- Medvedev - 4885
- Tsitsipas - 4800
- Alcaraz - 4740
- Ruud - 4695
Jak widać, zwycięstwo w US Open da pewną jedynkę tylko Medvedevowi, restza musi liczyć na to, że do finału nie awansuje Nadal. Co implikuje, że byczkowi z Majorki wystaczy finał do osiągnięcia numeru jeden, jeśli po drodze przepadnie Rosjanin.
No a są przecież jeszcze Hurkacz i Karreno-Busta.

AO, Indian Wells, Miami, Kanada, Cincy, nierankingowy Wimbledon bez pkt = 8 tys. pkt których Novak nie mógł zdobyć. Z USO będzie 10 tys.
Nie da się ukryć, że trochę więcej tygodni na jedynce Serb mógłby dziś mieć na koncie i dalej śrubować rekord. Graff ma wciąż 4 więcej (i to z pomocą noża), ale na 99.99999 % i tak ją łyknie w przyszłości Novak, a potem zostaną już tylko rekordy debla Bryanów:

Tsitsipas fell just short of his third Masters 1000 triumph in Cincinnati, but the Greek nonetheless returns to the Top 5 of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings after just a week away. The 24-year-old moved past Filip Krajinovic, Diego Schwartzman and John Isner, before a fine volleying performance carried him to a semi-final win against World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev as Tsitsipas reached the final in Ohio for the first time.
No. 9 Cameron Norrie, +2 (Career High)
One of the most consistent performers on the ATP Tour in 2022, Cameron Norrie moved to 41-19 for the season with his Cincinnati semi-final run. After opening wins against Holger Rune, Andy Murray and Ben Shelton in Ohio, Norrie prevailed in a thrilling three-set quarter-final victory against World No. 4 Carlos Alcaraz. He was undone by the inspired Coric in the semi-finals, but the Briton still rises two spots to a career-high No. 9 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings.
No. 12 Taylor Fritz, +1 (Joint Career High)
Taylor Fritz breezed past Sebastian Baez and the in-form Nick Kyrgios for the loss of just seven games in his opening two matches in Cincinnati, successes that he backed up with a third-round deciding-set victory against sixth seed Andrey Rublev. Fritz ultimately fell to World No. 1 Medvedev in the quarter-finals, but the American returns to his career-high No. 12 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings as he eyes his Top 10 breakthrough in the coming weeks.

Nadal, Medvedev Lead Five-Way Battle For No. 1 At US Open

Alcaraz has chance to become youngest No. 1 in history
Daniil Medvedev enters the US Open as the No. 1 player in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings but there will be fireworks at Flushing Meadows, where five players have a chance to claim the top spot.
When players next Monday drop their 2021 US Open points, Nadal will be in pole position to recapture World No. 1 for the first time since 2 February 2020. Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud need deep runs to challenge him.
Since Nadal did not compete last year in New York, he is not defending any points. When 2021 champion Medvedev drops the 2,000 points he is defending, Nadal will be No. 1 in the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings with 5,630 points.

The 36-year-old lefty will have a 590-point lead over Alexander Zverev, who does not have a chance to claim No. 1 because he is not competing at the US Open due to an ankle injury. Medvedev, who has held World No. 1 since the week of 13 June, will be 745 points behind.
Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Alcaraz and Ruud will all need to at least reach the US Open final to have an opportunity to leave New York as World No. 1.
Tsitsipas will be confident after reaching the Western & Southern Open final. However, the Greek has not moved past the third round at Flushing Meadows in four previous appearances.
Alcaraz, who defeated Tsitsipas at last year's US Open en route to the quarter-finals, has a chance to make history. If the 19-year-old Spaniard climbs to World No. 1 on 12 September, he will become the youngest No. 1 in Pepperstone ATP Rankings history, breaking the record Lleyton Hewitt set in November 2001 as a 20-year-old.
Ruud, who has climbed as high as World No. 5, can become the first Norwegian in Pepperstone ATP Rankings history to reach World No. 1.

Five players — Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud — have an opportunity to finish the US Open as the No. 1 player in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings.
With the release of the draw Thursday, the scenarios have become clearer. There are four situations in which both US Open finalists would be competing for both the season’s final major trophy and World No. 1.
If Nadal plays Medvedev in the championship match or Medvedev, Tsitsipas or Ruud face Alcaraz for the title, the winner will leave New York as World No. 1. Medvedev currently holds top spot, while Nadal is trying to regain it for the first time since February 2020 and Alcaraz is attempting to reach the pinnacle for the first time. With Medvedev defending 2000 points, Nadal will hold a healthy lead over the 26-year-old in the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings Monday.

There are also several potential matches that could happen earlier in the tournament that would have major implications on the battle for No. 1.
If Alcaraz eliminates Nadal in the last four, he would give himself a chance to become the youngest No. 1 in the history of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings (since 1973) by winning the title. If Medvedev, Tsitsipas or Ruud are still in the draw, an Alcaraz win against Nadal would guarantee that the 22-time major winner would not leave New York as World No. 1.

Depending on other results in the tournament, a Tsitsipas-Ruud quarter-final could be pivotal. Not only would the winner still have a chance to claim World No. 1, but the victor could also potentially become World No. 2 depending on other tournament results. Tsitsipas has climbed as high as World No. 3 and Ruud has ascended as high as World No. 5.
It is key to note that even if Nadal loses in the first round, Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Alcaraz or Ruud must advance to at least the final to prevent the 36-year-old from leaving the US Open as World No. 1. The Spaniard will finish the tournament no lower than World No. 3. If Nadal reaches the semi-finals, one of the other four players in contention must win the title to finish on top after the Open.

The winner of the US Open will receive 2,000 Pepperstone ATP Rankings points, the finalist will leave with 1,200 points and the semi-finalists 720 points.
By the end of the US Open, Medvedev will have held World No. 1 for 16 weeks, 13 of which have come during his current stint.
