Berdych, Granollers/Lopez Qualify For Barclays ATP World Tour Finals
Tomas Berdych is the sixth player to
qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.
Tomas Berdych has qualified for the 2012 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, to be held at The O2 in London from 5-12 November. The Czech, who captured his eighth career title at the If Stockholm Open on Sunday, is now assured of his place alongside Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer at the season-ending event. Just two singles berths remain up for grabs with two weeks remaining of the regular ATP World Tour season.
Berdych, who reached the semi-finals of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals last year, will be making his third consecutive appearance at the season finale. In 2012, the Czech has captured ATP World Tour titles at the Open Sud de France in Montpellier and Stockholm. The current World No. 6 also reached the final of the Mutua Madrid Open and the Winston-Salem Open, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the US Open.
"London is always a goal every season. You have to play well the whole year to qualify. It will be special for me to play there for the third year in a row," said Berdych.

In recent years, Tomas has firmly established himself at the highest level on the ATP World Tour and his qualification provides confirmation of another outstanding season in 2012."
In doubles, Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez have claimed their place at the season-ending event for the first time, becoming the sixth team to qualify. So far this season, the Spanish duo has captured ATP World Tour titles at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome and at the Credit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad. They join Bob and Mike Bryan, Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor, Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau, Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek, and Jonathan Marray and Frederik Nielsen as doubles qualifiers, leaving just two doubles team berths up for grabs.
Drewett said: "Marcel and Marc have had a breakthrough year on the doubles tour in 2012, capturing two ATP World Tour titles, as well as reaching four finals. We’re delighted they will be competing at the season finale for the first time and look forward to welcoming them in London."
The Race to London continues this week with two ATP World Tour 500 tournaments: the Valencia Open 500 and the Swiss Indoors Basel. Juan Martin del Potro (playing Basel) and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (Valencia) currently hold down the final two singles qualifying spots in the South African Airways ATP Rankings Race to London. Janko Tipsarevic (currently 9th in the Race exactly 500 points behind Tsonga) and Nicolas Almagro (10th, 885 points behind Tsonga) need big results this week in Valencia, where 500 points await the winner.
The season-ending event once again looks set to provide a thrilling finale to what has already been a remarkable season on the ATP World Tour, with the year-end World No.1 South African Airways ATP Ranking potentially coming down to the wire at the last event of the season in London.
