Denis Shapovalov on everyone’s expectations:

“First of all, I play for myself. Not for whatever people think of me. So, that alone, I have no problem with that. I know what I’m capable of. Obviously, I do surprise myself, like today, sometimes.

But at the end of the day, it’s a sport. People go up, people go down. You have good weeks, bad weeks. It happens all the time. You just have to maintain. Sometimes you have to find it within yourself.”

Shapovalov on the atmosphere on Centre Court during his match:

“I’ve never played in an atmosphere like this. It was so loud. On match point, my ears almost popped. They were cheering so loud, it was insane. It’s just so much fun to be out there. I feel very privileged to be part of this tournament.”



Rafael Nadal on his mastery of French

“My level of French is bad. But it’s obvious that I am from Mallorca, so we speak close to Catalan. Catalan and French are not very different, so I can understand if the French people speak slowly. I can understand a lot. And I can speak just little bit.”



Milos Raonic on his rollercoaster match

“I just started slow. He got comfortable there. I managed to scrap my way back. I didn’t serve well. I didn’t do the things I needed to do well. He was the one who was able to dictate more than I was. I wasn’t hitting the ball particularly well.”

“ I definitely wanted to have a different storyline here. It wasn’t necessarily the case. It is what it is. Hopefully I can turn it around very quickly because today was not a level of tennis to be proud of.”

“I got five cakes, none of which I made myself. They are big so it’ll take me all week to eat them. I’m going to have to work out [laughing]. It was pretty low key yesterday. I spent the day with my team. I hit some balls but I was a little tired. At night, we went out to eat and saw Coldplay. It was a really fun day. I missed my family a little but I’ll celebrate with them next week in Cincinnati.”
