E: A twierdzisz johnatan, że gdyby np. Bonga trafił na Gulbiego to nie miałby problemów. Jak ktoś oglądał to wie, że to Łotysz zagrał świetnie, a nie Berdych źle. Nie zdziwiłbym się gdyby taki Berdych poleciał z Fedem w późniejszych etapach.

WIMBLEDON TUESDAY DIARY: BAKER'S NIGHT & DAY EXPERIENCE


Brian Baker has enjoyed a vast upturn in fortunes in recent weeks.

ATPWorldTour.com takes a look at the news and talking points at Wimbledon on Tuesday.

Baker: 'Night And Day Difference'
American qualifier Brian Baker, who beat Rui Machado of Portugal 7-6(2), 6-4, 6-0 in the first round, confessed his increased media commitments after his comeback contrast vastly to his memories of five surgeries and uncertain future as a tennis player. "It's a night and day difference," he said. "I'd be lying if I sat here and said that I expected all this to happen right now when I was going through all those surgeries. But I never gave up the hope that I would be able to come back. I was always confident in my abilities that, if I was ever able to stay healthy, I would have success.

"I was hopeful that I would come back and that my game would still be there. But I don't think I ever imagined that at this point this year that I was going to be playing both at the French [Roland Garros] and Wimbledon and winning rounds and winning [ATP] Challengers and getting to ATP finals [in Nice]. So it's been a pleasant surprise, and hopefully I can continue the momentum and play well."

Wimbledon’s Quick Turn Around
Wimbledon groundsman Neil Stubley will have just 20 days at the end of The Championships to regrow the grass in time for the Olympic Games tennis event. The 35-man team at the All England Club use 100 per cent perennial ryegrass with a combination of Pontiac, Melbourne and Venice strains. The majority is grown in the Netherlands and Wimbledon use nine tonnes per year.

Stubley said, "The big question is: how can you turn it round in 20 days. Our answer to everybody is that this process has been going for over two years. What we have in place now, we know it works. This is what we need to do. This is what we are going to do.

"The only thing that could potentially hinder us would be temperature but it would have to be one of those one in 100 years of the coldest summers on record. We have the perfect grass-growing climate in Britain. For us it is a constant battle. You will never ever, ever have a baseline that doesn't wear out. Grass is a living plant and if you kick it on the head enough, the head will fall off. But it's all about how long you can keep the head on for."

Raonic’s Advice For Youngsters
Milos Raonic, speaking to the Toronto Blog, gave some advice to aspiring professionals. "Hard work always pays off," the No. 21 seed admitted. "In tennis as in all sports there are always up and downs, but stick to it. Surround yourself with people you trust and believe in the work you do - that will get you far. The rest takes a bit of good fortune and luck. I ventured out of Canada for the competition and because I wanted to surround myself with people I knew could make the best of my abilities."

Goffin Soft Spot
David Goffin may have reached the Roland Garros fourth round (l. to Federer), but Wimbledon remains his favourite. "For a long time it's the best tournament I prefer to play," said the Belgian. "I played last year in Roehampton, but it is the most beautiful tournament in the world. I love playing here and I hope I will play a lot of years here." When asked about his Olympic participation in three weeks’ time, Goffin admitted, "Now I'm feeling good on grass, so I'm happy to go to the Olympics."

Murray’s Dog Warms To Lendl
It must be a world’s first? Maggie May, Andy Murray’s Border Terrier, is writing a column for The Tennis Space website. Maggie May revealed, "Ivan Lendl came round for dinner the other night which I was pretty excited about. I’m a soft touch when it comes to men, you see. I flirted my Border Terrier socks off and even allowed him on my sofa, but he didn’t let me kiss his face which I thought pretty harsh. Maybe it’s a Czech thing?"

Statistic Of The Day
It was a bad day for Australia as Bernard Tomic, Lleyton Hewitt and Matthew Ebden joined Monday’s casualty, Marinko Matosevic, on the sidelines. For the first time since 1938, Australia will not have any men in the second round. Tomic, who lost to David Goffin 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, admitted, "I think what I've lacked the last few weeks is the consistency, and it's tough to get. Hopefully the Olympics will be good to me. I'm playing in Stuttgart and Hamburg, so I think I've got time to catch up to where I was here." Hewitt, 30, who was beaten 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, said, "I'd like to be back here, absolutely, but we'll have to wait and see."
