The first edition of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings was published on 23 August 1973, more than 50 years ago. Next Monday, for the first time, there will not be a player with a one-handed backhand in the world’s Top 10.

When the first edition of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings was released, nine of the world's Top 10 wielded a one-handed backhand. The only exception was lefty Jimmy Connors, known for his two-hander.

Eleven of the 28 players who have reached No. 1 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings have hit a one-handed backhand. On Monday, only two members of the Top 25, No. 11 Stefanos Tsitsipas and No. 13 Grigor Dimitrov, will be one-handed backhand players.

This moment was close to happening at the Australian Open, where Alex de Minaur could have displaced Stefanos Tsitsipas from the Top 10 with a fourth-round win against Andrey Rublev. The Australian lost in five sets.

According to the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings, Tsitsipas will drop from the Top 10 Monday for the first time since March 2019. And with De Minaur’s win against Dimitrov in the semi-finals of the ABN AMRO Open, there is no other player with a one-handed backhand who could ascend into the Top 10 Monday.

A three-tournament week on the ATP Tour saw ABN AMRO Open finalists Jannik Sinner and Alex de Minaur rise to new career highs in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings, while Facundo Diaz Acosta also made a big jump thanks to his title run at the IEB+ Argentina Open.

No. 3 Jannik Sinner, +1 (Career High)
Sinner extended his winning streak to 15 tour-level matches to claim the crown at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam. The 22-year-old’s championship-match victory against De Minaur has lifted him above Daniil Medvedev and into the Top 3 for the first time. He is the highest-ranked Italian player in the history of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings.

Despite his final defeat, De Minaur continued his impressive early-season form with his personal-best run in Rotterdam. The Australian notched his fourth Top 10 win of the year against Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals and also downed the in-form Grigor Dimitrov at the indoor ATP 500. De Minaur’s efforts have lifted him two spots to a career-high No. 9.

No. 45 Alexander Shevchenko, +12 (Career High)
Another dynamic baseliner who made waves in Rotterdam was Alexander Shevchenko. The 23-year-old earned his career-best win by beating World No. 7 Holger Rune in the second round before falling narrowly short against Dimitrov in a three-set quarter-final. Shevchenko has returned to the Top 50 as a result, rising 12 spots to No. 45.

No. 59 Facundo Diaz Acosta, +28 (Career High)
A fairytale title run on home soil for Diaz Acosta has seen the 23-year-old rise 28 spots to a career-high No. 59. The wild card did not drop a set all week at the IEB+ Argentina Open, beating Top 30 players Francisco Cerundolo and Nicolas Jarry en route to his maiden ATP Tour trophy.
