Roland Garros Diary: Roger On Sunday, Sam's Change, Simon Says

Sam Querrey credits his change in attitude in winning just his second match at Roland Garros.

Attitude Adjustment
Sam Querrey posted his second win at Roland Garros (2-6 overall) with victory over Lukas Lacko and credited a change in attitude for his success after hanging his head on too many occasions this season (16-11 overall).
“I felt like especially last week and a couple other times this year, I was getting down on myself a little too much,” said Querrey. “Today I just focused on attitude. David and I didn't talk about what my opponent does well. We just wanted to focus on myself and playing aggressive and keep my head up, and that's what I did the whole time. Felt good and I played great.”
Sunday Start Sufficient
World No. 3 Roger Federer dropped just seven games in his first-round win versus qualifier Pablo Carreno Busta and revealed that he didn’t mind the Sunday start in Paris, stating, “I'm happy this time around. I told them if they wanted me to play Sunday, whatever, I'm fine with it. They took that opportunity right away, so... (Smiling.)”
You’ve Got A Friend
Milos Raonic recently parted ways with longtime coach Galo Blanco and is relying on the assistance of comrade Ivan Ljubicic. The Canadian spoke about their arrangement and what he’s hoping to accomplish following his four-set win against Xavier Malisse.
“Ivan is helping me out as a friend at the moment… I think just since it's a new start with something, you just sort of go forward with it, with the game plan, and you sort of just lay that trust there,” Raonic said. “And just part of it is to be quite a bit more aggressive and try to make the opponent more and more comfortable and not really settle for rally shots, trying to have more purpose on every shot, trying to sort of get that rather than waiting for my opponent to give it to me. Sort of reaching out there and trying to take it for myself.”

Match Of The Day
Fifteenth seed Gilles Simon rallied from two sets down for the first time in his career, overcoming former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt 3-6, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1, 7-5. In the decisive set, Simon led 5-0 and held two match points in the eighth game before Hewitt fought back to make things interesting. But the Frenchman remained calm to win the final two games and move ahead 4-0 in the pair’s FedEx ATP Head2Head series.
