British tennis player Johanna Konta has defended Australian Open players complaining about Melbourne's strict quarantine measures, saying "it's 100 per cent not easy" and emotions are "running high".

Konta is one of the "lucky ones" who wasn't on a coronavirus positive flight, but said she's sympathetic to what players are going through.
"When you're first thrust into a situation you weren't expecting emotions are going to run high," she told Today.

"Hopefully as the days go things will settle down, and hopefully everyone is able to make the best of the situation they have.
"It's 100 per cent not easy for anyone in this situation; not easy for the public seeing us coming in and not easy for the players.
"It's a lot of uneasiness for everyone".

With on-court training now off the cards, players are restricted to exercising in hotel rooms, which diminishes their hopes of winning the grand slam.
"The reason we are here is to put on a show for the people of Australia, the people Melbourne and also the world stage, " Konta said.
"We want to entertain you guys.
"I think a big part of that frustration for these players is how well they'll be able to perform.
"That just comes along with being a professional athlete — you want to do the best you can when you go out on court.
