Denis Shapovalov on his meteoric rise in recent weeks
“It’s a very fast pace right now. It’s a lot to take in, obviously. But, you know, honestly, I’m very thankful that I’m in this position. If I didn’t save those four match points in the first round, there wouldn’t even be a chance to play Juan Martin or Rafa. I’m very thankful for that.
I’m very thankful to have Wayne and Penny by my side. Very inspiring. All that put together, I’m very thankful.”
Shapovalov on his formidable opponent, Rafael Nadal
“It’s so tough. A lot of the time, he just hits a shot that’s way too good. I was managing to get a lot back when I could. But, you know, he’s honestly the best player I’ve ever played in my life.
You could tell why he’s won so many Grand Slams. His ball was just so heavy. He’s such a warrior out there. So, it’s honestly, like, a dream come true for me to beat a player like that.”
Shapovalov on the energy on Centre Court
“The crowd was ridiculous. I’ve never been in a sporting event where the fans get so loud. It’s so much fun to be a part of. It’s so much fun having them cheer me on. Honestly, I don’t think I could be in this position without them.”
Rafael Nadal following his loss to Shapovalov
“He played well. He has great potential. I wish him the best. He has everything to become a great player. He played with the right determination in the important moments.”
Nadal on how Shapovalov stayed the course even with his back to the wall
“He has nothing to lose. It’s win-win for him. If he loses playing a good match, it was good for him. If he loses in straight sets, already he’s played a good tournament. If he wins, he’s amazing. He won. It’s amazing for him. Just well done for him. It’s a great story. And I am not happy to be part of this story.”
Roger Federer on his 17-0 record against David Ferrer
“I’ve never beaten other players by these types of numbers. Versus other players, I’ve won 17 times in 30 or 40 matches. They always ended up beating me at one point, like Roddick, Gonzalez, Soderling . . . In some cases, I won ten matches in a row. But, in the end, they beat me. That’s why I have a lot of respect for today’s match. I know it can’t last since 17 is really a lot.”
Alexander Zverev on his first Masters 1000 as the fourth seed
“Well, obviously it feels good. But it feels a little bit strange, as well. It’s a Masters 1000, one of the biggest events we have on Tour. I’m not used to it yet. But I’m guessing that hopefully it will happen a lot more times, maybe even higher seeded. I’m guessing that’s something I have to get used to.”
Zverev on his Washington rematch against Kevin Anderson in their quarterfinal on Friday
“If it’s going to be the same outcome, then it’s fine. If it changes, then I’m not too happy about it. […] I’m happy for him, too, that he’s in the quarterfinals. But tomorrow is going to be another interesting one between us.”

US Open, to się będzie liczyć. 15 tytułów Masters nie wynagrodzi przegranej w turnieju WS.
Wkrótce Roger wyjdzie na mecz z RBA. Zobaczymy czy backhand będzie równie marny jak w meczu z Ferru...

• Either Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal will be ranked No. 1 on August 21 and seeded No. 1 at the US Open. Appearing in his eighth Coupe Rogers quarter-final, Federer controls his own destiny. A third title in Canada would give Federer 7,545 Emirates ATP Rankings points. With Nadal defending 90 of his 7,555 ranking points next week, Federer would clinch No. 1 with the Montreal title and an equal-or-better finish than the Spaniard in Cincinnati, where the Swiss is a seven-time champion.
• Federer is a combined 20-1 against the other seven Coupe Rogers quarter-finalists with a 6-0 record against Nadal's countryman Roberto Bautista Agut. The Spaniard hopes to win a set off Federer for the first time when they meet again on Friday. Bautista Agut is 0-14 in sets against Federer, including a two-tiebreak loss in the ATP Masters 1000 Miami fourth round on March 28.
• If Federer is World No. 1 on August 21, he'll have Denis Shapovalov to thank. The 18-year-old Canadian wild card became the second-youngest player to defeat Nadal on Thursday. Shapovalov is the youngest ATP Masters 1000 quarter-finalist in series history (249 events with 1,992 quarter-final spots since 1990). After entering Montreal with three tour-level wins, Shapovalov has earned three more this week and seeks another on Friday against fellow left-hander Adrian Mannarino. Both Shapovalov and Mannarino, 29, are appearing in their first ATP Masters 1000 quarter-final.
• The only quarter-finalist with a win over Federer is 20-year-old Alexander Zverev, who meets Kevin Anderson on Friday in a Washington final rematch. Zverev defeated Anderson 6-4, 6-4 five days ago for his fourth title of 2017. A berth in their first ATP Masters 1000 semi-final is at stake for unseeded players Robin Haase and Diego Schwartzman at 12:30 pm. Five unseeded players are in the quarter-finals of an ATP Masters 1000 event for the first time since 2005 Hamburg. One year earlier, Federer and Andy Roddick were the only seeds in the Coupe Rogers quarter-finals.

Trochę w szoku jestem, że Haase nie pajacował przy serwisie na mecz i zamknął sprawę za pierwszą meczową. dziewiczy półfinał Holendra i fajnie - lubię gościa.
