Zabrakło trochę do zwycięstwa nad Dimitrovem. Wydaje mi się, że kolejny sezon będzie tym przełomowym. W sumie to już teraz do "100" brakuje nie tak wiele.

No jak dla mnie ten jego obecny sezon był przełomowy. Tzn. wiadomo, że to ogromnego kalibru talent, więc kto wie co zrobi za rok - a jeszcze w maju można było mieć wątpliwości, bo lekko mizerne były jego wyniki.

Michael Stich w rozmowie z gazetą Hamburger Abendblatt opowiedział o tym, jak widzi przyszłość Alexandra Zvereva oraz turnieju rangi ATP World Tour 500, którego jest dyrektorem.
17-letni Alexander Zverev (ATP 136) jest wielką nadzieją niemieckiego tenisa. Talent reprezentanta naszych zachodnich sąsiadów objawił się podczas tegorocznego turnieju w Hamburgu, gdzie Sascha w wielkim stylu dotarł aż do półfinału. - Zawsze mu powtarzałem, że nie będzie rozczarowania. Sascha ciągle jest jeszcze młody, ale jest też bardzo utalentowany - powiedział Michael Stich.

Dyrektor turnieju w Hamburgu, niegdyś druga rakieta świata, jest przekonany, że Zverev będzie stopniowo poprawiał swoją pozycję. - Sascha pójdzie swoją drogą. Będzie starał się ustabilizować swoje miejsce w światowym rankingu i obronić punkty wywalczone w Hamburgu w minionym sezonie, dzięki czemu będzie mógł przybliżyć się do awansu do Top 100 - wyznał triumfator Wimbledonu 1991.
Stich stwierdził również, iż nie oczekuje od zdolnego rodaka powtórzenia w Hamburgu rezultatu z 2014 roku. - To nie jest raczej zbyt realne. Będę zadowolony, jeśli w lipcu 2015 roku zobaczę Saschę Zvereva, który jeszcze bardziej się rozwinął pod względem fizycznym oraz technicznym. Sam Zverev zachowuje chłodną głowę, ponieważ w grudniowym wywiadzie przyznał, że niczego wielkiego jeszcze na zawodowych kortach nie osiągnął.
A jaka przyszłość czeka turniej w Hamburgu, który ma licencję zawodów rangi ATP World Tour 500 do 2018 roku? - Idealnie byłoby, żeby Tommy Haas powrócił na korty Rothenbaum, aby móc pożegnać się z fanami. Oczywiście będę się również starał sprowadzić gwiazdy pokroju Novaka Djokovicia, Rogera Federera czy Rafaela Nadala, ale wszyscy doskonale wiemy, jakie wymagania finansowe ma wymieniona trójka - zakończył Stich.

Young Guns Part 2: Alex Zverev


Alexander Zverev won his maiden ATP Challenger Tour crown in Braunschweig, a week before streaking to the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour 500 event in Hamburg.

Coric wasn’t the only 17 year old to make a splash on the ATP World Tour in 2014. Alexander Zverev had not won a tour-level match when he entered the Rothenbaum Tennis Center in Hamburg for the 500-level event, but with a title run at the Braunschweig Challenger at his back, the German would stun the field en route to the semi-finals (l. to Ferrer). Zverev upset seeds Mikhail Youzhny and Santiago Giraldo before rallying from a 0-6 deficit to top countryman Tobias Kamke in the quarter-finals.

The former top-ranked junior and 2014 Australian Open boys' titlist became the 12th-youngest player to prevail on the Challenger circuit with his win in Braunschweig. For just the fourth time since 1990, multiple 17-under players won titles on the ATP Challenger Tour in a single season.

"It feels great,” said Zverev after triumphing in Braunschweig. “I didn't expect to win. I beat three Top 100 players and I never beat even one before that. It's great for me the way I played there and I'm really happy to come out with the win.

"[Cracking the Top 300] like that and not through Futures and lower tournaments is even better. I showed that I can play at that level and I'm really happy that it happened that quickly."

Zverev struck 22 aces and saved all six break points he faced in his two-hour 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-4 triumph over Australian Sam Groth. Like Coric, the 17 year old German is also sitting at a career-high ranking of No. 129 in the Emirates ATP Rankings. Zverev, a qualifier in Miami, will face No. 26 seed Lukas Rosol in his next match.

Neckarcup (Heilbronn, Germany): Alexander Zverev joined Kokkinakis, Chung and Borna Coric as the fourth teen in the Top 100 of the Emirates ATP Rankings with a title run on home soil in Heilbronn. The 18 year old won his second ATP Challenger Tour crown behind a 6-1, 7-6(7) win over Guido Pella, saving eight of Zverevnine break points faced. Last year, he became the 12th-youngest titlist on the circuit when he claimed his maiden title in Braunschweig.
