The 20-year-old German sprinted past #NextGenATP Russian Andrey Rublev in the China Open quarter-finals in Beijing to clinch his debut at the prestigious season-ending tournament.
Zverev broke four times and needed only 70 minutes to beat Rublev 6-2, 6-3. He improves to 2-0 against the 19 year old in their FedEx ATP Head2Head series, having also beaten the Russian last year at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.
Rublev is in second place in the Emirates ATP Race To Milan, which will determine seven of the eight players who compete at the inaugural Next Gen ATP Finals, to be held 7-11 November in Milan.

Zverev's win sets a blockbuster semi-final in Beijing. He will meet Aussie Nick Kyrgios, who remained dominant on serve during his quarter-final, striking 12 aces and dropping only one first-service point (16/17) to advance.
The 22-year-old Aussie was leading 6-0, 3-0 against Steve Darcis when the Belgian had to retire after only 30 minutes. Kyrgios leads Zverev 2-1 in their FedEx ATP Head2Head series, but the German took their most recent contest in August at the Coupe Rogers in Montreal.
“It's unpredictable. Obviously he's a great player. He's a big server. He's someone that I know very well outside the court, as well. We've played a few times this year, all on hard courts, all on the U.S. hard courts. In Miami he beat me, Indian Wells. In Montreal I was able to beat him,” Zverev said.
“Hopefully it's going to be another entertaining match. I think we're both playing great tennis. Hopefully it's going to be a high-standard semi-final.”

Zverev is going for a tour-leading sixth title in 2017. He is currently tied with fellow Beijing semi-finalist Nadal and 19-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer with five titles each.
Kyrgios will be playing in his fourth semi-final of the season and his first since August at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, where he fell in the final to Grigor Dimitrov at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament.
Kyrgios also reached the last four in Marseille, Acapulco and Miami. So far in Beijing, the 6'4” right-hander has hit 35 aces and won 79 per cent of his service points.
