Eleven Players Graduate From ATP University In London

ATP University welcomed 11 players to the London Marriott County Hall for a three-day workshop featuring presentations made by ATP executives and industry specialists.

The programme began Sunday, 27 November, and covered a variety of topics including overview of the ATP, rules and officiating, anti-corruption, media relations, giving back and personal finances. The players were also special guests at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, where they saw Roger Federer claim a record sixth title at the circuit finale.

More than 750 athletes have completed ATP University since its inception in 1990. The curriculum provides a thorough knowledge of ATP operations and the skills necessary for a productive and lasting career.

Murray set to unlock potential in 2012


Judy Murray is an excellent appointment to the role of the LTA's Fed Cup captain.

The Scot has valuable experience in every aspect required for the job and has a proven track record.

She has proven herself in producing two top-class tennis players in her own family, which is as much as the LTA have managed in the last couple of decades.

Murray has nine years of experience at the top of Scottish tennis, and so she knows how to coach at various levels and has a unique understanding of the game.

She has very good relationships with key individuals at the top of the sport, and at grassroots level too. If Judy were a rock and you split her in two, you would see tennis running right through her.

Murray's appointment comes at the perfect time, both for her and for the LTA with a cluster of very talented players coming through and fit-again experienced campaigners.

British tennis on the women's side has been in the doldrums for a long time now, and Murray will see this as the ideal time at which to make a real impact.

Elena Baltacha and Anne Keothavong have both had resurgences of late, and their experience will prove very valuable indeed.

Both players are now playing as well as they ever have done, and it will be extremely interesting to see if they can further progress with a clean bill of health in 2012.

In Heather Watson and Laura Robson, Murray has two very fine young players to work with and watch develop.

The Scot will be in her element working with Watson and Robson, and both players are poised for a major move up the rankings and key growth in their developments.

There will not be any wholesale changes, and it will very much be a case of guiding and advising the current batch of players to continue their progress.

Judy is not a ranter or a raver, but she does insist on her charges maintaining very high standards, and she will not tolerate any ill-discipline or lapses in concentration.

The key week will be the first one of the new year as they take on Israel in a play-off, and that will represent a big test of Judy's ability to steer her team to success away from home.

Murray will bring both motivational qualities and technical prowess on the coaching side, and she has been the fulcrum behind her son Andy's rise to prominence.

Judy is the puppet master of her son's progress, and they have a very effective professional as well as family relationship.

Every year as Andy grows as a person, he will see less of his mother as a coaching influence, and his progress under Darren Cahill has been superb.

Andy is set for a magnificent year, and it could well be the season that we see him really make a mark on the world stage in terms of winning a Grand Slam or two.

I see it being a huge year for both Andy and Judy, with both set to stamp their authority on the world of tennis in their own individual ways.

GB are ranked at number 26 at the moment, and I confidently predict that they will improve to be a top-10 side before the next year is out.

The talent is certainly there, and I believe that Murray is the perfect appointment to give every British tennis fan reason to be optimistic and to expect success.
