Bublik, Mpetshi Perricard win Challenger titles, set for showdown in Hamburg opener
Spoiler:
Alexander Bublik and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard captured ATP Challenger Tour 175 titles on Sunday, and their winning form will be tested immediately as the two champions will meet in the opening round of the Bitpanda Hamburg Open.
Bublik claimed his seventh Challenger crown at the Piemonte Open Intesa Sanpaolo in Turin, where he defeated China’s Buyunchaokete 6-3, 6-3 in the final. The eighth-seeded Kazakh dropped just three points behind his first serve in each set, according to Infosys ATP Stats, as he raced to a 73-minute victory.
Following his title run, Bublik is up 25 places to No. 51 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
“I wasn’t expecting anything but to win,” Bublik said. “I just stayed on my level, had very solid matches. I had a tough one against Tomas [Martin Etcheverry], a former Top 30 player. For me, it was just keeping my level to get back to where I belong where I stayed most of my career. It’s just a little step towards what I really want to achieve.”

In other action, Alexander Bublik rallied from a two-set deficit to upset ninth-seeded Australian Alex de Minaur 2-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 and reach the third round in Paris for the first time.
De Minaur looked on course for a comfortable win after the opening two sets but struggled on serve for large periods of the clash, making just 48 per cent first serves, according to Infosys Stats. Bublik took large cuts on return on De Minaur’s second delivery to take control of the baseline exchanges and become the first Kazakhstani to reach the third round at the clay-court major.
Bublik, who is now 11-24 against Top-10 opponents, will next meet Portugal’s Henrique Rocha, who also won from two sets down against Jakub Mensik.
