Fritz Clinches Crown In Eastbourne

Taylor Fritz’s serve came to the party when it mattered in the final of the Rothesay International on Saturday.

The American produced a near faultless display on delivery as he overcome countryman Maxime Cressy 6-2, 6-7(4), 7-6(4) to capture his third ATP Tour title, and second in Eastbourne.

“There is something about this place. It is where I won my first title and when I got here on the first day this week, I felt that I was playing so much better than before. This place has a special spot in my heart,” Fritz said during the trophy ceremony.


In front of a packed crowd, the third seed won 92 per cent (54/59) of his first-serve points, fired 17 aces and did not face a break point to triumph after two hours and 16 minutes.

Fritz, who lifted the trophy in Eastbourne in 2019, was not broken all week at the ATP 250 event, where he moved past Thiago Monteiro, Alexander Bublik and Alex de Minaur before defeating Cressy in their first ATP Head2Head meeting.

“My grass season wasn’t going great before I arrived here. But it is great to beat these players and it gives me confidence,” Fritz added. “I played really well all week and going into Wimbledon, I feel good.”

Earlier this season, Fritz won his first ATP Masters 1000 crown in Indian Wells, while he now holds a 25-10 record on the year.

Cressy was trying to become the eighth first-time ATP Tour winner this season, having defeated Reilly Opelka, Daniel Evans, Cameron Norrie and Jack Draper en route to the final. The American, who is up to No. 45 in the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings, reached the final at the Melbourne Summer Set in January.

TAYLOR FRITZ ON WHY HE GIVES HIS COACHES FEEDBACK – “I want to tell the coach what I’m thinking in situations, why I did this, why I did that, because in my head it should give them a better understanding of why I’m hitting this shot, why I’m doing this in this moment, instead of them just telling me what to do. I’m not going to lie, sometimes I think my tennis IQ is very high and I just want to explain where I’m coming from. It’s really just a better understanding type of thing between us and not me being stubborn.”
