Ja akurat w tym przypadku stanę po stronie Hiszpana. Co zostało już przed chwilą wspomniane, od lat bardzo denerwuje cukierkowatość wypowiedzi czołowych tenisistów, dlatego wolę, jak Rafa czy Roger powiedzą, co tak naprawdę myślą. Dlatego absolutnie nie mam pretensji do Nadala za taką wypowiedź i nie dziwi mnie, że może tak myśleć, ludzkie.

Toni Nadal believes we'll see return of vintage Rafa

By his standards, Rafael Nadal's season was a disappointment. He failed to reach a Grand Slam final and experienced long periods of self-doubt, even losing trust in his lethal forehand.

But was this just an aberration? Will the Nadal who won 14 Grand Slam titles return in 2016?

Recently, his uncle and longtime coach, Toni Nadal, spoke with ESPN.com.

What has changed for Rafa? What can he do to raise his level?

"First of all, and this is the most important thing, is the tranquility. Rafael is much more comfortable on the court now. And in this moment, he thinks about what he needs to do, and then when he gets on the court that is what he does. For many months this year, he was thinking about what he wanted to do, about this or that, but then when he came on the court, he couldn't do it. Now he can do it, and that's good. It gives him the possibility to play well."

How frustrating has this season been for you and Nadal?

"For me, it hasn't been difficult because I know that in life things don't always go as I want, and how Rafael wants. I know that it's not the case that just because you want to do something, that it's going to happen. In life, things don't always go the way you want, or in the direction you want, and tennis is the same, it's not special. So it's OK, because we can accept that sometimes we have good seasons and sometimes we have bad seasons. We have good tournaments and we have bad tournaments."

With victories against Stan Wawrinka and Andy Murray in the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals, are you happy with the direction Nadal is going?

"Maybe. But he also wasn't so far away from beating Roger Federer in an indoor court in Basel [recently] when Roger was playing very well. And he has beaten some good players recently. For us, the victory over Andy Murray in London was very important because Murray is the No. 2 in the world and a very good player. I think Rafael during the last two months has played so much better than earlier in the season."

Will Rafael go back to winning Grand Slams in 2016?

"Yes. I couldn't do this work if I thought that he couldn't win more Grand Slams. No, no, no, I think that he can win more Grand Slams. He can win the Australian Open in January. And he can win Wimbledon, too. The last few years, Rafael arrives at Wimbledon and he loses early, and very fast. And, in Roland Garros, for sure, Rafael can win. In tennis, you need confidence to do things. It's impossible to do anything without confidence. You can't win any good tournaments if you think you cannot and you don't believe."

Do you think that Rafa can equal and then surpass Federer's 17 Grand Slam titles?

"I don't know. I will wait until 2016 starts before I think about that, but I know that Rafael can improve and that he can play well and play to a high level."

Who had the better season, Novak Djokovic or Serena Williams?

"I think Djokovic, but Serena had a great year, too, as she also won three Grand Slams. Maybe Djokovic as he made the final of the other one [Roland Garros] and Serena lost in the semifinal of the one she didn't win [the US Open]. Sometimes this season it was impossible for anyone to beat Djokovic. With Serena, it was a little less impossible for her opponents."

What does Rafa have to do to challenge Djokovic in 2016?

"What he tries to do every day on court, which is to play more aggressively from the baseline, and to go into the net when he can, and to improve his serve."

Despite he hasn't won a Grand Slam title since Roland Garros in 2014 when he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final, Rafael Nadal is not in a rush for winning a Major tournament. 'I have not anxiety to win a Grand Slam tournament. I have had anxiety for the way I was playing and I worked on it during the whole year' - he said to the Huffington Post

Many journalist, maybe too many times, asked him to speak about his problems in 2015. But that does not bother him. 'I understand that people who are not with me every day can ask themselves what was happening. I do not believe that they have been unfair with me, we know that the memory in sports is short. I am not a person that reads a lot about what it has been written about me'

Despite the injuries and the negative results, 'I never thought about retirement. I am 29 and in June I will turn 30. I do not think that moment has come yet. I wish to have many more opportunities to win titles'. The experience over the years helped him: 'Like everyone, I am not the same player nor the same person that I was at 18. It's logic. I believe I stayed with the feet on the ground thanks mostly to my family and my team'.

Rafa lived some difficult moments off-court too. Canal+ France made parodies about doping in men's tennis, his personal problems because of the love story between his parents or to the criticizisms by Gala Leon on being male chauvinist. The tranquility made the difference against everything and everyone: 'Time puts everything in order against any false news or speculation. It happens usually when you are so popular. But it's not more important. You face every problem in a different way and there is my team that helps me on these aspects of the life.'

The most magical moment in his career: 'Maybe the final in 2008 in Wimbledon against Federer'. And what if he could make a wish? 'I do not believe in these things. I think everyone has to do something for the others depending on his abilities'.

What would he like to do after retirement? Start a family, become a coach? 'I always said that I like kids, so if everything goes well it will be something important in my life. Family is very important for me and it will be one of my priorities.'

Toni Nadal has had an interesting article featured in Tennis Base in which he's spoken about the future of tennis characterized by only power and force.

'In the past' - writes Toni - 'When we watched players like Ilie Nastase, Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe and Björn Borg we didn’t just appreciate their different styles, but we marveled at the way they could improvise and produce strategies to defeat each one of their opponents. They prepared each and every point and resolved them in their own way. We admired their talent as tennis players, but we loved their intelligent approach to the game as well.

Today, though, certain developments in the world of tennis are a cause for concern. A few days ago, I read that at the recent Australian Open, more than seventy percent of the points did not last longer than four shots. The statistics are similar at last year’s US Open. People who love this sport have reason to be worried.

'I think I can predict where the future of tennis is heading, and I’m afraid I don’t like what I see. If nothing is done, we will soon be witness to an almost total domination of speed and power to the detriment of skills and tactics. Tennis will just become a matter of brute force, rather than a sport in which players need to work on improving their skills, reflect on the game, and apply intelligent strategies.'

The phrase 'If nothing is done' is quite important to think about. What needs to be done? Do surfaces need to be made slower than what they already are today?

Three Records Rafael Nadal could break on clay this season!

The clay season, every year without fail, has been the most important part of the season for Rafael Nadal. His good performances during the clay season, on a surface that has been always favourable to him through all his career, have always helped him to regain confidence . This year, he has a lot of reasons to win on this surface.

Titles conquered on clay
Guillermo Vilas has 49 titles on clay. And Rafa has 47 titles. In March 2015, in Buenos Aires Rafa had equalled the Argentine's records for... five minutes. In the official preview of the final, ATP announced that Vilas had 46 titles and Rafa had had 45. But five minutes after Nadal's win over Juan Monaco in the final, the ATP had modified its previous announcement. The ATP affirmed that the titles won by Vilas in Toronto 1974 and 1976, and in Virginia Beach in 1977 were on clay and not on hard courts, thus putting Rafa narrowly behind by two titles.

Most titles in an event
Nadal could improve his own record on clay. No one has won nine titles in the same tournament, and Rafa's done it at Roland Garros. He's also triumphed eight times in Monte Carlo and Barcelona and so equalling his record of Roland Garros titles could be equalled in these two events, even if Rafa does not win his tenth title in Paris. Federer has eight titles in Halle and Vilas had won eight titles in Buenos Aires.

rsoderlingA couple of years back, people talked about that Roger is done. Was he? The last year, many "experts" and people in general tells that Rafa is done (he is nr 5 in the world by the way). Just a tips: Start understand that these kind of athletes aren't like the rest. They are done once they decide not to work for it anymore. As long as Roger and Rafa are playing, they can still win any title!
